Movies, movies movies…

Written on Jul 09, 2008 // movies.

Ok I thought I’d give everyone a brief rundown of the movies I’ve seen recently, be them old or new, but for sake of relevance, I’ll start with the new releases I’ve watched.

Wanted

This movie is… for lack of a better word… batshit insane - but in a great way. Read my full review over at geeksofdoom.com here.

Kung Fu Panda

Another great movie, with some good voice talent from Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Angelina Jolie and Ian McShane. I’d highly recommend this to adults and kids alike. :)

The Forbidden Kingdom

For a kid’s movie, The Forbidden Kingdom is excellent - good story, great chroeography… and how can you turn down a movie with both Jackie Chan and Jet Li in it?

The Incredible Hulk

I really liked this Hulk reboot/sequel (it works as either), but I think that its mainly due to Ed Norton and Tim Roth. Definitely go see this in the cinema if possible - the big screen action makes it very worthwhile.

Hancock

Not the best film I’ve seen this year, but definitely not the worst. Its generally good fun, but still lacking…. something. The CGI isn’t amazing, but the humour is enough to make me enjoy the movie.

And now for the DVD movies I’ve seen recently.

Batman: Gotham Knight [Buy it here]

This is 6 short stories scripted by different writers and animators, a little like The Animatrix. This is definitely worth watching in the run-up to The Dark Knight (July 18th in the US, July 25th in the UK), as they bridge the gap between Batman Begins and Chris Nolan’s reportedly epic sequel.

Hellboy: Sword of Storms & Hellboy: Blood & Iron

Both of these are great animated features, and the voice cast is the same as the live action movie cast. I’d recommend them both, but I won’t review here as I’ve sent the reviews to geeksofdoom.com, and they haven’t been posted yet.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back [Buy it here]

No - this movie isn’t Kevin Smith’s finest work (Clerks/Clerks 2 or Dogma is in my opinion), but I love it all the same. This is a fan movie, rammed so full of in-jokes that you need to have seen all of his previous movies to get everything. Funny, stupid… and it has a monkey ffs…. if you haven’t seen it, you should. Its not an amazing movie, but it’ll make you chuckle throughout as long as you have a sense of humour.

Thanks it for the moment folks - expect more very soon when I’ve seen things like Wall-e, Prince Caspian, The Dark Knight, Hellboy 2 et al. :)
