Wanted trailer… and forthcoming review

// Written on Jun 04, 2008 // movies

I’ve been eyeing up the forthcoming adaption of Mark Millar’s Wanted for a while now, and just saw the below trailer… and I keep getting more and more excited by it.

To view the HD trailer, click here.

I’ve also been asked to review the movie for geeksofdoom.com upon release, so make sure to keep checking the site! (There’s a book review for the gaming version of the Guinness Book of Records going up pretty soon too).

Want to see Kevin Smith’s Wii?

// Written on Jan 03, 2008 // gaming

I know, I know…. sounds like a dodgy question, huh? ;)

Clerks writer & director Kevin Smith got this Christmas’ must-have gift this year, but he did it so much better than everyone else. Designer Ramon Stokes was hired to create a custom Wii - and putting no less than 60 hours of work into it!

Kevin Smith's custom Wii

Here’s what Stokes said on his official blog:

“The Wii was painted using flat gray scale colors to match the black and white clerks characters. The stand features the main characters each back-lit with two “stage lights” that beam up to highlight the custom 3D Clerks logo. The opposite side has a specially back-lit logo of his production company. Finally, the controllers were painstakingly hand painted letter by letter to feature his name one controller and his most famous alter ego on the second. As a most respectful nod to his writing, the font was meant to look like one an old typewriter might use.

For a little more information, more images, and information on other projects like the Rock Star Wii, God of War PSP, check out Ramon Stokes blog.

Shoot ‘Em Up

// Written on Sep 17, 2007 // movies

Title: “Shoot ‘Em Up”
Starring: Clive Owen, Monica Bellucci, Paul Giamatti
Director: Michael Davis

Shoot Em Up

Synopsis: A hitman (Giamatti) has been hired to take out a mother and her child… and a carrot-eating Samaritan Mr. Smith (Owen) decides to help the mother out by killing a never-ending slew of henchmen in some imaginative, and often hilarious ways… all to keep the baby alive.

Review: I love this movie - after seeing the trailer (below) I wasn’t sure if this was just a balls-out action movie with some funny parts here and there, but Shoot ‘Em Up is hilarious all the way through.

Witty one-liners that would even make James Bond groan, the most ridiculous action set-pieces I’ve seen in a movie (the sex scene where Owen & Bellucci are going at it, with Owen gunning down bad guys without breaking his rhythm… killing the last bad guy and saying “Talk about blowing your load” lol).

Shoot ‘Em Up is unashamedly over the top, but it works really well - Owen’s carrot-munching, Bugs Bunny-quoting deadpan one liners, Giamatti’s almost Elmer Fudd-like hitman that keeps making excuses to his wife as to why he’s late etc… the movie is tongue-in-cheek all the way, and often laugh out loud funny.

I’d urge you to go see this now… this is probably the most enjoyable movie I’ve watched all year.
